River Annan Report
6th May 2016

After the tremendous floods in January and February the river has settled in April and May. This morning the river is perfectly clear and 12 above summer level at Brydekirk.

We have had some superb sport with the brownies with fish up to 3lbs. Hatches of olives have been spectacular on some beats particularly Hoddom.

The only thing missing has been visiting anglers.

Under the Scottish Government's guidelines the Annan will be mandatory catch and release for salmon during 2016.

Newbie has had seven and Hoddom one but it is realistically a little early to fish with any great expectation.

Next month given rain should see the salmon numbers increase steadily.

There is plenty of availability for salmon rods

To let you know we arrived home safe and sound, if not tired out and thoroughly contented, after the spey casting tuition we booked with yourself on the River Annan.

It was the best birthday present Steven has had. We arrived home and he was out with the rod putting into practice what you had shown us on the day.

As an elderly person!!!!!!???? I was worried that I may not be able to cope with this new way of fishing, and although it took me a little longer to master the basics I can assure you that your patience, practical demonstration, and hands on approach coupled with your empathetic teaching skills were first class.

Although we primarily booked for the casting lessons, your all round knowledge of the Annan river system, and how to fish the different stretches of water, coupled with tackle and initial setup advice made the day both interesting and enjoyable.

We will be back up in a couple of weeks time to try and bag that first salmon and I shall ring you to book accommodation, and see if you will be available to accompany my son and myself.

Once again Keith thanks for a great experience.

Mike and Steven Cook.
